What can be the causes of the Aorta rupturing after tonsillectomy?
Aorta rupture after a tonsillectomy is extremely rare but can occur due to several factors, including severe hypertension, underlying vascular abnormalities, or trauma during the surgical procedure. Surgical manipulation might inadvertently damage nearby structures or blood vessels, leading to a rupture. Additionally, pre-existing conditions such as atherosclerosis or connective tissue disorders could predispose a patient to vascular complications post-surgery. Prompt recognition and management are crucial to prevent severe complications.
Do Lingual tonsils grow back after being removed?
My daughter's was removed in Oct 2011 and We were told in March 2012 that it is starting to grow back already. So I guess the answer is Yes they can. She has the same issues as she did before her first surgery. If someone has had this happen before please post, I would like to know the out come and what was done the second time around. Also If any Md's know what could cause them to be growing back so fast we have had her checked for allergies with over 150 skin test and blood test. Also I have had her checked by a GI and scoped which showed nothing but chronic gastritis. Which Gi doc says wouldn't cause Lingual tonsils to have regrowth. I am really concerned and need some answers..... Please post with any info at all.. I don't want to put her through this surgery again if we have any other options.

What is it like to get your tonsils removed What is the process and does it hurt?
I had my tonsils out when I was eight years old. You dont feel anything in the surgery because they put you to sleep. When you wake up it does hurt when you swallow and your throat is going to be sore for awhile. But you can eat ice cream afterwards. You might throwup afterwards, I did because of the stuff they gave me to put me asleep.
Before you go to the operating theatre, an anaesthetist will come and see you and listen to your chest and ask about your health. He will prescribe a pre-med, which will make you feel sleepy and will dry up your mouth.
You will go to theatre and you will be put under anaesthetic, usually by a small injection into your vein. When the anesthetist is satisfied that you are properly asleep, he will tell the surgeon that it is OK to go ahead with the surgery. The anaesthetist keeps a check on your blood pressure and heart rate while the surgeon is operating.
After they are finished, you will be wheeled into a Recovery Room, where you will be looked after by qualified staff until you come round. They will keep checking your pulse and vital signs. When they are satisfied with your condition, either the surgeon or the anaesthetist will check your condition and sign you out of theatre. You won't usually remember this part. You will usually think you woke up back in the ward.
Yes, it does hurt for a few days afterwards. But you will be given a prescription for pain relieving medication, and they are pretty good these days, so it shouldn't be too bad. You may be surprised at how much your general health improves after the surgery, and that improvement makes it worthwhile.
I wish you all the best.
Can getting your tonsils removed cause you to snore?
Yes it can! - If you have your tonsils out and your adenoids and uvula remain, the new air flow pattern can cause "snoring". The adenoids and uvula could have been supported by the large tonsil structure that is no more and together with your enlarged airway can cause new oscillations. Consult your physician and ask for a referral to an "ENT" (Ear, Nose, Throat) specialist that they would recommend.
Why is a tonsillectomy ok for kids not adults?
Some adults do have tonsillectomies.
It's not that tonsillectomies are only suitable for kids, it's that if the person is going to need their tonsils out they will generally know about it when they are quite young (too many throat infections already so it's decided they should be removed). The patients just tend to find out early so don't keep their tonsils to adulthood, so never have them removed when they're adults.
