That's more of an opinion question. Travian can be a slow paced game (it might take an hour or two to build something) but there is a lot of bloging (optional, Im not into blogging much). this is a game were you can have fun for a few minutes then easily stop. But most people come back for more. Try it out, if you like it great; if not, who cares? Its easy to get started and easy to delete yourself.

How do you upgrade your soldiers in Travian?
You can upgrade your soldiers in two ways in Travian:
1. By building a blacksmith and upgrading your troops' weapons (improves attack points)
2. By building an armoury and upgrading your troops' armour (improves defense points)

to get to 900 pop is not to hard takes about 2 week if you sim city ( that's just building not attacking or making new troops ). my highest was 1273 pop

How do you get rid of rats in Travian?
You should provoke an enemy and make them raid your village while your troops are busy somewhere else. You cannot order a rat to do anything because it is considered a reinforcement from the Village of Elders. So the only way to get rid of it is to let an enemy or a friend attack your village with very small numbers (1-3 units will do away with your 1 rat).

How do you form an alliance in Travian?
You need to:
Build an embassy
Get it to level 3.
Then, go in your embassy and you will get the option.
n.b. Tag is a shortened name for the alliance (the one displayed in stats) and name is the full one (only displayed on the alliance page.
So you could have:
Tag: Eg Name: Example
BUT
Tag: Example Name : Example works.
No 2 tags can be the same per server (unless one deletes/ changes).
you cannot "learn" to play travian, you need to experiment, and play around. Yes, on your first few servers you try something bad, (like attack a big player) but you will never do it again :)
I will teach you as much as I can without writing much.
first of all, decide your tribe. defenders play as gauls, simmers (no troop builders, just buildings) romans, or offensive people, (like me) tuets. It is a good idea to start with gauls, then if your confident enough, move to tuets.
then create your account, and, if I were you, choose the quest master. Join an alliance, talk to the big experianced players, get advise, ect. Just remember, some people on travian have an aim to give people hell by destroying their villages and troops, ect. That is when you go to your alliance for help.
Last tip, when you 9(if you) move to tuets, you will find more of the big players are tuets. Their macemen cost nothing to train, are brilliant raiders, and you can have some good troop numbers. Heard the saying "attack is the best form of defense"? If I get attacked, I will go and send 20,000 axemen or something at them, to land the second their troops get back, to kill their hammer :)
