What habitat do eucalyptus trees prefer?
I have 3 or 4 in my garden, and I live in Northern Ireland in which it is cold and wet most of the year! Although I know they also grow in warmer countries like Australia so I think they can how in most climates.!
It depends on where they are. If they are in a forest, then no. If they are in the park, then some of them might be not to block up the paths. If they are along a road, then yes definitely, because vehicles need to pass through easily. You can sometimes see trees cut in an arc shape, so that double-decker buses can pass. If it is in your garden, then it is up to you. If you don't it will continue to grow where it wants to, but if you want to keep it in a particular position or size then I would trim it a bit. Hope this helped.

I don't know when you posted this but I did the same thing a year ago and it took quite a while for the pain to go away. My guess is that there is something in the honey locust needle that is an irritant. I also thought there was something still in my foot, that's how bad it hurt. What really helped while my foot was getting better was to wear shoes that had a thick rubber sole. I have a pair of Land's End clogs with the canvas upper and a super thick rubber sole, they were the only shoes I was comfortable in. I still wear them to this day when I go out in my pasture (which is where I got the injury) just in case, the needles don't go through it sole. Hope this helps, good luck.

How do you stop fungus from growing on a tree trunk?
For any kind of fungus. located on anything, anywhere, whether or not it is on the ground or a tree trunk, etc. Make a tea of horticultural corn meal. Not gluten corn meal!
It kills any fungus. i am told it even gets rid of Athlete's foot if you soak your feet in it.
To one gallon water, mix in a handful of horticultural corn meal. Stir well and let it soak for an hour or so. Mix as much as needed using those proportions.
I make this tea every spring after our rainy season has ended, to spray all the shrubs, especially my roses, and crepe myrtles. It prevents black spot fungus, and powdery mildew.
If you have toad stools in your yard, they are caused by rotting wood under the ground. This could be dead roots or pieces of lumber left in construction and covered with dirt. Soak the area well with this tea. Usually one application is enough. If the problem is not completely taken care of, you can repeat it as many times as you need to. I don't think you can over do it, as you can do with chemical products.
Horticultural corn meal can be bought at nurseries that carry organic products, or feed stores.
I find it costs less at feed stores.

Why do acorns last a long time?
If the acorns are dried than they will be preserved for longer also if you keep them in the freezer or a dry cool place inside a zip lock bag they can last to 9 months. By then it may not be safe to eat them. Acorns contain Tannin which is in the oak and the taste is rather bitter.
I have the same problem. I have lost one dwarf lilac bush all ready and now it looks like the one next to it is starting to die. I was told the first one that died had Gurgling (sp) root disease. The root starts to wrap around itself and chokes off the other roots. Has anyone heard of this? Also is there any cure?
See the web link to the left for some general information on lilac problems.

Is the birch tree a fruit bearing tree?
Yes, it is. Most people misunderstand what fruit is; apple, peach, banana, plum, pear, those are obvious fruit trees that everyone would recognize as such, but this is going by the purely horticultural definition of fruit.
But more broadly, all trees that produce flowers are fruit-bearing trees, because the seed-containing ovaries are classed as fruit. So yes, the birch tree is a fruit-bearing tree.
An interesting note about birch is that its fruit was used as a food source by the Incas.
