You start at a grade and increase in steps with time. If you get promoted you go up in grade. Air Marshalls do not use the standard GS grading system you may be familiar with. Like if someone goes into witness protection the Us Marshall's have to hide them and if the peoples location is compromised they have to do everything in their power to keep the person safe and unharmed. I believe you have to have at least a bachelors degree in criminal justice 3 years of related work experience and one year in law enforcement, but if you got good grades in college both of those requirements can be waived.
