You have to go to the Companions in Whiterun. After a few quests they will turn you into a werewolf.

There weakness is silver. A werewolf is able to rip people in half, easily, and they don't wear ever shirts. They have nothing good about them, except they attract chicks and during there make-out sessions, like in the thriller video by Michael Jackson, they into werewolfs. Although there are some smaller cultures that believe in werewolves, the overall scientifically accepted opinion is no. Werewolves are works of cinematic and literary fiction. The closest you will come to being face to face with a werewolf is at your local theatre.

I believe that imprimting is an art that only shifter can do. I have never heard of it in werewolves.

You have to go to a wooded area, were a werewolf will feel most comfortable in it's wolf state. Contrary to most beliefs they don't only come out during a full moon, but they are (for some reason) more active during. Werewolves do travel together, so when you approach the group be aware that only one has to bite you. Bring bear spray and a rifle for protection. Provoke one on the edge of the group until it gives a warning bite on your arm or leg. Than spray the bear spray and give a warning shot in the air with the rifle. It will take upwards to a month for any signs of a transformation to show. Signs include insomnia (as werewolves are nocturnal), easily irritability, not being thirsty, and in later stages of transformation foaming at the mouth.

There are no real shape-shifting werewolves. Anyone writing about them is free to put whatever restrictions on their shape-shifting abilities they like. In some cases, the shape change may be voluntary at other times but involuntary at the time of the full moon. In others, they may never be able to voluntarily change, but only as a result of the moon's phase.

The situation you've stated is probably the most common situation in works that I've read or movies that I've seen or games that I've played, but it's not actually mandatory, since there are no real werewolves to prove a writer incorrect.
