How do you tell if what you see is either a grey hound or a whippet?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If sighted in or around the Port Authority Bus Terminal, it's a Greyhound (Bus). Kidding aside they are similar dogs; the Greyhound is used in commercial dog racing and is tall- coming up to the midthigh. The whippet is smaller- about knee height. Both the greyhound and whippet come in many colours and with many markings, including brindle. Whippets were bred as racing dogs and are still used as such in th UK, as well as being used to catch rabbits etc. They are faster than greyhounds and are the fastest dog in existence.

What is best food to give your whippet?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

From experience . . . i have a senior 8 year old whippet x basset hound fauve de bretagne, i would highly reccomend james wellbeloved. it has given my dog Maisy her required joint care and nutrients for later life. She is very bouncy and happy. previously i had tried her on harringtons rice and lamb; to start with she was doing great until everyday she started to get weaker and weaker, and even had a fit in the night as her stomach was feeling horrendous. i am thrilled to be giving her great food that actually agrees with her VERY sensitive stomach!

What are whippets bread for?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Whippets were originally bred for catching rabbits. Later for both this and racing and lure-coursing. These days, the catching rabbits is frowned upon, so lure-coursing and racing have taken its place for the most part. We can say now, that the breed is bred to run in general. They love to run and are the fastest in excelleration and cornering, as well as one of the fasted in top-speed in general. The result of them being bred for performance has led to a healthy breed that can live a very long life if they avoid bad running accidents.

Will a whippet get on with a cat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends on the age and personality. If the whippet is territoriol if the cat came into his area they would most likely be a stand off. However when the whippet goes into the cat territory they will usually follow the cat and not make a move unless the cat runs. But if you get your whippet as a puppy and you cat as a kitten they may grow up together and become friends.
