The Whiskey Rebellion was a protest in the United States against a tax that was levied against whiskey. The purpose of the tax was to pay for debt that had accumulated during the American War of Independence.

The Whiskey Rebellion, which occurred mostly in Western Pennsylvania, began in 1791 and lasted until 1794. It was also known as the Whiskey Insurrection.

The outcome of the Whiskey Rebellion helped establish the power of the federal government to suppress violent uprisings against its laws. It also forced westerners to finally accept the Constitution and avoid violent resistance against the government. Protests, though not violent, continued and resisters still continued to refuse to pay the tax..

Western farmers opposed the whiskey tax because idk. answer it yourself lol... jk. They opposed it because farmers exchanged whiskey and other items they produced for goods they needed. Congress decided to put a special tax on whiskey and other alcoholic beverages to help reduce the national debt. However, western farmers opposed and protested... :) hope this helppss!

During the Whiskey Rebellion, there were no deaths from fighting. There was an estimated 12 people who died from illnesses or accidents.

He stopped it by sending federal troops into western pennsylvania to end the protest once and for all. The significance o this action was that it showed the strength of the federal gov't (government) under the Constitution because they no longer used the Articles of Confederation. It was a fitting response to an immediate threat to the federal government.

Whiskey was a cash crop to the western settlers. They could not ship their grain down the Mississippi River until it was opened to American trade in 1795. The cost of transporting the grain east over the mountains was too expensive. Converted into liquor, a horse could carry enough of the liquid to make the trip profitable. When Hamilton convinced Washington and Congress to pass a tax on whiskey, the profit to the western farmers dried up. Like Shays's Rebellion before, the western farmers rebelled against the tax by rioting in some of the river towns and roughing up the tax collectors. Washington, who had not supported the ideas behind Shays' Rebellion, saw an opportunity to show the power of the new federal government over the weakness of the Articles. Along with Hamilton, he led 15,000 troops to surpress the rebellion. Washington left the area when the farmers dispersed, but Hamilton rounded up several who were tried for treason and sentenced to death. Washington pardoned them, calling them "mental defectives." The rebellion was not much as far as military "battles" go, but the importance of the Whiskey Rebellion was political. The government asserted the power over the states to enforce federal laws by using troops, if necessary, that came from other states. Of course, the western farmers never supported the Federalists when they formed the Federalist Party.

Washington was able to stop the rebellion with troops. This was not the case during Shay's Rebellion. The stopping of the rebellion showed the people that the army was strong and the new government could enforce laws.

He did this to help pay the national debt.
