White Tigers

Beautiful, but misunderstood, white tigers are really just genetically flawed Bengal tigers. Extremely rare in the wild, they can appear in a litter with normal colored siblings. Those in captivity often suffer from inbreeding abnormalities.

Does the white tiger live in snow places?

I am not that sure, but I think it does because I have done some research on it.

No. White tigers are an extremely rare color morph of the Bengal tiger in India. Siberian tigers do live in snowy regions in winter, but there are no white Siberian tigers.

What are the reasons for killing tigers?

Well, if you think that tigers are beautiful animals, then maybe you'd want a tiger rug on your floor, or a tiger coat, or a tiger-whatever.

And as soon as someone is willing to pay enough for a thing like that, then there's someone willing to do what it takes to earn that money.

And tigers get killed.

Where in Asia can you find you white tigers?

Although the 'grandfather' of all known modern White tigers was originally found in India, to the best of my knowledge all living White Tigers can now be found in Zoos and other private collections, few of which are in Asia.

Is riddex dangerous to humans?

I found this on their website.. "Save thousands of dollars on pest control

Just plug in the Riddex Plus and it immediately starts paying for itself. A single Riddex Plus unit covers an entire level of a typical home, effectively driving away rodents and roaches. Never use harmful chemical sprays or breathe noxious fumes from other pest control products ever again! Safe for use around children, pets, and electronics."

A few years ago, I bought some of those types of pest avoidance devices- not Riddex plus, and both cats and one dog could hear them, but didn't seem to be adversely affected by them. I could tell they heard them because they side-stepped away from the outlets I'd plugged them into. Mainly the cats did this, but the dog seemed to take notice also. They did get used to them. I don't think they were harmed in any way by them because they'd go up and sniff at them with interest, not hatred.

The product we used was an ultrasonic unit, but to let you know, it didn't work a bit.

I believe products like this have been proven to be inafective.

How many white tigers are left in the world today?

Contrary to popular belief, white tigers are merely a genetic color mutation of the Bengal tiger, and do not constitute a separate species. At this time, populations of Bengal tigers are estimated to be between 1,300 and 1,500. But according to zoologists, there is only a 1 in 10,000 chance that a Bengal tiger will be born with the white genetic mutation.

In the past 100 years, there have only been 12 confirmed reports of white tiger sightings in the wild, the last of which occurred in 1959.

Due to their coloration, it is believed that white tigers are disadvantaged in the wild since their stark markings make them far more visible to prey in the dark jungle.

In captivity, white tigers are achieved through selective breeding, as both parents need to be carriers of the white gene in order to produce white offspring. Because of this, many zoos have resorted to inbreeding (matings between relatives), which can cause the cubs to suffer from a wide range of ailments, from cleft palates to mental retardation.

According to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the World Wildlife Fund, white tigers have no conservation-related value aside from increasing zoo attendance. They are not included in any Species Survival Plan, and exist only in zoos and private collections today.

There are at least 200 white tigers in zoos today, but many more in the hands of private owners who keep them as 'pets'.

The white coloration is a mutation, in the wild there are few if any, In captivity there are a few dozen.

White tigers is not a type of tiger that survives in the wild because they do not have their natural camouflage they only survive in captivity so their numbers are higher in zoos and such there really isn't a count that I know of because people are more concerned with the depleting numbers of tigers in general in the wild. White tigers is typically a birth defect like albinism or maladistic coloring in other species of big cats like leopards or jaguars ( there is no such thing as a black panther it is a maladistic black leopard or cougar)

There are a few hundred in zoos or other captive situations, none presently in the wild.

There are NO white tigers left in the world. There are only BENGAL tigers.

20 billion

there are only around 200 white tigers left in the world witch if you think about it is sad because if you have a kid when you are older it might not see a white tiger :(

How do you save snow tigers?

Snow Leopards are endemic to Central and South Asia, they are endangered and are only found in zoos outside of their natural range.

Snow Leopards are on the Red Data List and between 4,000 and 6,500 adults are know to remain (of which only 2,500 survive in the wild!)

Most people would not have the opportunity to work directly with conservation efforts (i.e. field work) with respect to the Snow Leopard; it therefore makes sense that the best method to support conservation efforts would be to support (though funding or volunteer work) a conservation agency or protected zone that undertakes this sort of work.

From an organised conservation perspective:

  • Selective and protected breeding and release programs.
  • Protecting natural ranges of the Snow Leopard through proactive conservation and protection programs.
  • Education programs for locals who live within the Snow Leopards range; not to poach and sell them for their fur, not to trap them if they suspect their livestock is being killed by them etc.
  • Restrict the movement and illegal trade in the species through legislation.

Why white tigers are so rare or special?

A white tiger is a tiger with a recessive gene that creates the pale coloration. Another genetic characteristic makes the stripes of the tiger very pale; white tigers of this type are called snow-white or "pure white". There are only around 200 of the white tigers left in the world. White tigers are an Asian species, found from the frozen tundra of the Soviet Far East, south to the humid jungles of Malaya and Indonesia, and west to the hot, hardwood forests of India. There are five living subspecies; three others are already extinct. Current estimates put the world population of wild tigers at about 5,000-7,000, the most numerous race being the Bengal race, distributed among some 18 tiger reserves and sanctuaries of India (and a half-dozen in Nepal and Bangladesh), accounting for over two-thirds of all wild tigers.

How is the white tiger being protected?

Let's resolve this wild abberation!!

The best and most appropriate solution to white tiger conservation is exhibiting and breeding white tigers is the very antithesis of conservation, is dishonest and unethical and is tantamount to catering to the public's desire to see genetic aberrations rather than educating the public regarding the incredible process of natural selection, how the unbelievable diversity of life has evolved on our planet throughout the past 50 million years and the crucial need for us to preserve natural habitats and stop the destruction of our global ecosystem if we desire to save any threatened or endangered species from extinction.

What group is a tiger in?

Tigers are solitary animals. They usually roam alone in the wild.
The only cats who naturally stick in groups are lions.

However when tigers are forced to stay together as a group, for example in man-made zoos, a group of tigers is called a streak or an ambush. Both terms are used but streak is more common.
