After their first successful flight the Wrights continued to build 2 more similar aircraft and to experiment with different controls and engines. They made no flights at all during 1906 and -07, but started flying again in a contract for the US Army in 1908.

This was at a time when there were no aircraft at all. It was the first of its kind. They also built the aircraft, so they had no one they could ask for advice.

So beyond familiarising themselves with the thing they had built, there was no special training.

The Wright brothers invented the flyer because as a boy they owned a tiny toy helicopter, which they used until it wore out and was what got them interested in flying. Then when they were working at their bicycle store, they figured that humans flying wasn't impossible, so they began asking different people for designs on it but everyone just giggled and left, so they started their own design which created the "Flyer"

They lived mid-century. They were born in the 1880's and they died in 1911 and the 1940's.
