They had a unique turning system that really never took off. Rather then movable surfaces like ailerons, rudder and flaps, the Wright brothers used wing warping. This process actually bent the wing to provide a little les lift to one side and therby dipping that wing.
Other unique issues were the rudder system was in front of the plane, the engine connected to two props (very dangerous with those chains) and the pilot laid down.
