Google Documents is a branch of Google current in "Beta" testing. Google makes money is a variety of ways. Mostly through advertisements. Companies pay Google to have their company turn up first in search results or off to the right hand column in Google, Google Documents, and other Google sites (Google owns a lot). According to Google's investor relations page, they pulled in over 21 million US dollars in revenue for 2008 alone experiencing a 31% growth from 2007. Google also makes money through direct advertising for companies on sites it owns though its program called Google AdSense, and its web wide user content analysis system called Google Analytics that tracked web content on subscriber site and gives them priority spots in search results and well as the ability to customize their listing in the Google database, statistical information regarding the users coming to their sites, and the ability to use "smart ads" (ads that change based off of user Demographics). I will include a link to an article with more information on Google AdSense.
