There are two key disadvantages of toll-free numbers. First is that the recipient pays for all calls, including wrong numbers and including surcharges for calls from payphones. The second is that a toll-free number is usually only reachable from one country, although North American toll-free numbers can be reached from the entire North American zone, including the USA, Canada, and 18 assorted Caribbean and nearby islands. However, a caller in Mexico or Australia or India may be unable to reach a North American toll-free number, or vice-versa.
