The similarities between cupcake and cake include that both:
The cupcake is smaller, and also prepared differently. (On an off-topic note, the cake is lie!)
No it's the same amount of cake mix except in to cupcake pans so yeah it's smaller but I don't think you need to change the time

Yes. Cake frosting and cupcake frosting are the exact same thing. They are generally made from a butter-cream using butter, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. There are thousands of frosting recipes and virtually all of them can be used interchangeably for both cakes and cupcakes.
A cupcake usually hase icing on it because it's a minuture cake CUP-CAKE. if it doesn't, it would be a muffin.
A small, sweet cake would be a cupcake.
To convert a cake recipe into a cupcake recipe, you can simply adjust the baking time and temperature. Fill cupcake liners about two-thirds full with the batter from the cake recipe, then bake at the same temperature but for a shorter time, usually around 15-20 minutes. Keep an eye on them and use a toothpick to check for doneness.
The cupcake was invented in the 19th century as a way to make a smaller cake.
In America and Canada a flapjack is a pancake. In the United Kingdom and Ireland it is oats, golden syrup and sugar mixed together and baked in an oven. It generally doesn't fit into either biscuit of cake category.
So far I have found that the difference is that cupcakes are smaller (one portion as opposed to a cake which must be cut into portion sizes, hence piece of cake rather than piece of cupcake), you can't put cream in cupcakes, and a cupcake has a muffin top. Not to mention that cupcakes are iced only on the top whereas cakes are iced on the top and sides. AND the cooking time is different -LuckyNumber07 Says... So you are saying the base of a cupcake and cake are the same. But the frosting on a cupcake is only on the top and on a cake the icing or frosting is on the sides too!! :) Not to mention cupcakes are smaller. Darn!! :) -LuckyNumber07 (\__/) (='.'=) (")_(")
Cupcake mixture is similar to normal cake mixture but may have slight differences in ingredients and ratios to achieve a lighter and fluffier texture for cupcakes. Cupcake mixture is usually more aerated to help cupcakes rise evenly in their smaller baking cups.
