In Central Asia, numerous Mongol and Türkic Tribes converted to Islam and then proceeded to conquer much of Central Asia, up to Xinjiang in Western China. Under the Abbassid banner, these Türkic Tribes and Arabs fought the Tang Empire at the Battle of Talas in 751 C.E. and won a stunning victory against the Chinese, putting an Islamic State right next to Imperial China.
