Perhaps ½ a percent? Tarlabasi covers 1-2 square kilometers in the Beyoglu area of Istanbuls inner city, paradoxically very close to the posh Istiklal Walking Street. The whole city is 80 km in diameter, with 14 mio. people. The largest slums are in the outer suburbs - like gaziosmanpasa with 1 mio. people - not like a third world slum, but still a slum. Other poor areas are Ümraniye, Esenler, Esenyurt and Sultanbeyli. Gnp/capita in turkey is 10000$ whereas 1500$ in a country like India...and Istanbuls slums are not in any way as poor and bad as slums in Latin America or South East Asis....and first of all they are pretty safe - crime rates are low.
around 570 billion square feet
Istanbul, Turkey is unusual because half of it is considered to be in Europe and the other half is in Asia...also its unusual that it's not the capital of Turkey because it is much larger than any other city in Turkey
Far, Tehran is the capital city of Iran situated in the north of Iran and Istanbul is the biggest city of Turkey in the northwest of the country, It will take you about 4 hours to get there by plane and almost 2 days by bus. There are cheap flights from Pegasus Airline, a budget airline operating in Turkey and also Aseman, Mahan and Iran Air are not that expensive either, Turkish Airlines is quite expensive if you buy the Istanbul, Tehran return ticket, but if you are going to Turkey first, its sometimes very cheap to buy a Turkish Airline ticket from your country to the destination of Iran, it will land in Istanbul anyway and you can schedule to stay in Istanbul for a few days and then continue to Iran, this way the ticket will be much cheaper. The cities are quite similar, both of them are really huge, the downtown in both of the cities are really dangerous so you might wanna have that in mind, but other than that I advise you to see both, Istanbul is a great city, many historical places but not that clean and modernized and people are not that nice and polite either. In Tehran there are not that many historical places to go to but people are really friendly, the city is much more cleaner and modernized than Istanbul and they have a great highway system. Have a good trip
The city called Byzantium, Constantinople, or Istanbul. This city was the capital of the Eastern Roman or Byzantine Empire, and the city and the empire were styled after Rome. However, the city of Moscow (Muscovy) is also called New Rome, or the Third Rome, because the influence of the Byzantines modified Moscow to be much like Constantinople.

The capital of Turkey is Ankara which is located in central Anatolia. Ankara was preferred to Istanbul, which had been the capital of the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires for hundreds of years, because Istanbul was considered vulnerable to potential enemy attacks and also housed much of the Ancien Regime Intelligentsia. The new nation of Turkey chose Ankara as its capital as it was located in the middle of Anatolia (Asian Turkey).Ankara is the capital of the Republic of Turkey.
