Bishts or bists are mostly chettris that migrated from Gharwal and Kumaon in India after the Gurkha wars. Although some of their priests also adopted the last name. Roughly ninetly percent of Bishts or bistas are Chettris but in Gharwal and Kumaon they prefer to call themselved Rajputs although hardly anyone of them or the Bistas in Nepal are sons of kings. Historically the Bistas of Nepal usually land owners(jamindar or jamndar), millitary, or local administrators(panch or sarpanch. Although now a days they are employed in all sorts of trades - legal and illegal - like the general population.
