The War of 1812 was fought on the Atlantic Ocean, the Atlantic Coast. the Great Lakes and on what was termed the Frontier. Battles like New Orleans and the defense of Baltimore and the Burning of Washington, the capture of Fort Mackinac. the Fort Dearborn Massacre and Tecumseh's War were the headline events but New York had serious involvement in the Great Lakes Theatre of operations and the Niagra frontier. Buffalo was torched by the British on 30 December 1813. The Naval engagements on Lake Ontario were indecisive but the Niagra River campaign included the Battles of Chippawa, Lundy's Lane and the Siege of Fort Erie. The Battle of Plattsburgh, New York receives little historical notice except perhaps by Historian Theodore Roosevelt who called it the "Greatest Naval Battle of the War.

There were no US Civil War battles in NY.
