The "Anti-Fascist Protection Wall" as the East Germans officially called it, was meant to prevent citizens of East Germany from going to West Berlin. West Berlin was controlled by the USA, France, and UK, and the East German government did not want its people going there.
In the fall of 1989, the Berlin wall was taken down by sledgehammer and any other tool the citizens of Berlin could find following the first efforts made by the military. It allowed family and friends to be together for the first time since the wall was put in place.

West Berlin was democratic, controlled by West Germany. East Berlin was Communist, controlled by the Soviets and East Germany. Just to be confusing..... East Germany was called the GDR, the German Democratic Republic. It was that in name, it was not that in actual fact !

It effected the Weimar republic as well because they were also German citizens. They also went though the crisis of money loss. It may have not effected them as much as other German citizens because they were RICH! In general, Stalin's aim in closing access to Berlin was meant to stop western access to the city and consolidate his hold on eastern Germany. Providing access to Berlin, the German capital, had irritated him for years. The Marshall Plan, essentially the airlifting via US cargo aircraft of vital supplies to Berlin, was designed to defeat Stalin in that aim. The goal was to preserve access to Berlin for the western powers.
If you meant 'what form' - it's a democratic government.

The division of Germany and of Berlin was originally meant to be temporary. In 1947, Western leaders began planning for the creation of an independent democratic German nation. They also planned to establish a democratic government in West Berlin, which was deep inside the Soviet zone. In June 1948, the Soviets blocked off all land, rail, and water routes into West Berlin. As a result, Berlin's 2 million residents were cut off from receiving vital supplies. The Soviets hoped this blockade would force the West to leave Berlin. Western leaders then organized the Berlin airlift, a massive effort to supply West Berlin by air. This turned out to be a success, and the Soviets called off the blockade of Berlin in May 1949. Within days of the end of this crisis, the Federal Republic of Germany, commonly called West Germany was formed. A few months later, the Soviet controlled area became the German Democratic Republic, or East Germany.
