Cyprus is an island nation in the Eastern Mediterranean and does not share land borders with any other country, as it is completely surrounded by water. However, it is located south of Turkey, west of Syria and Lebanon, and north of Egypt. The closest land border is with Turkey, which is approximately 40 kilometers away across the Mediterranean Sea.
The official borders of Cyprus lie in the Mediterranean sea, at the edge of its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). This is based on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 1982, and extends to halfway between the island of Cyprus and its near neighbours, or if there is no near neighbour (as in the western coast) up to a maxiumum of 200 miles offshore. In terms of its de facto borders, the UNFICYP ceasefire line that divides the island between northeast and southwest forms the border between Turkish-Occupied Northern Cyprus and Independent Cyprus. Additionally, Cyprus has borders with the two UK-manned bases of Akotiri and Dhelika on the island.
The Cyprus Island is located in the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea which Turkey has borders with. So, Cyprus is much closer to Turkey than it is to Greece.
