You have two 1988 grand marquis one is an ls and one is a gs with an ls package. the ls has the automatic climate control and you was wondering if you could just swap the climate control units in the?

Yes - IF and ONLY if both Cars have Automatic Climate Control. The computer settings are different (Or are 'supposed' to be) - You can always try - if it works great, if not, at least you know.

PossibleThe thermostat is located on the top of the engine - just follow the top radiator hose to the top of the engine. When you remove that hose you'll the thermostat. Do you have the Automatic Climate Control?

I had a 1995 do the same thing. Do you have the Automatic Climate Control? If you do, the problem is the control unit itself and ir runs about $400-$500 new, but you can usually find one in a Junk Yard for around $100. That's what I did and it fixed mine. A mechanic told me that there is a part inside of the control unit that goes bad. The control until is in the dash. It's extremely easy to change out. I did it myself. Hope this helps. Josh

If you have Climate Control, the Climate Control Unit has gone bad. This is the unit inside of the car that you use to select A/C or heat. It would have a digital readout. You can usually get one from a junk yard for about $100. A new one is over $400. It's very easy to change out.
