Ok here goes...
I'm from Canada, so this answer is based on that.
It's also based on the fact that you are in Jamaica to "vacation" and NOT work.
You must have a passport.

First of all, they will only let you in the country if you have a return ticket. No one way flights.
The maximum stay is 6 months, and in order to get that length of stay, you must prove that you have accommodations, and funds to support yourself during that time. It's totally up to the Immigration officer at the time of your arrival and entry into Jamaica. If you satisfy his/her questions, and you have a return flight, you will be granted a 6 month stay.
