The United Nations (UN) played a complex role during the Cold War, serving as a platform for dialogue and diplomacy between the two superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union. While the UN aimed to promote peace and cooperation, it often reflected the geopolitical tensions of the era, with both blocs using the organization to advance their interests. The UN's peacekeeping missions and resolutions sometimes helped to mitigate conflicts, but the Security Council's effectiveness was often hampered by vetoes from the superpowers. Overall, the UN contributed to both the management of Cold War tensions and the promotion of international norms amidst a polarized global landscape.

Other nations might have gone to war with the United States to gain control of the Philippines because of its strategic location and raw materials.
The Cold War has been over for a long time.... The Cold War began as World War II was ending. American leaders saw the power and ambitions of the Soviet Union as a threat to our national security. The Cold War was a war of words and ideologies rather than a shooting war, although at times the Cold War turned “hot” as in Korea and Vietnam. Basically, the Cold War was a rivalry between the United States as leader of the western democracies, and the Soviet Union and the nations that were controlled by the communists. The Cold War continued through the decades of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, until the collapse of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Berlin Wall. Today there is talk of a return to "the Cold War" because of Russia's invasion in Georgia, but most in "the know" doubt if that will happen.
Due to the cold war everyone was affected because the Americans and Russian were both fighting for power. The economy of either countries were unaffected and the affect was mostly political.
