Reformers who believed in progress and wanted to work for it were called protestants. These are people who differed with certain ideologies in Catholicism.

Copperheads were Northerners who did not want to go to Civil War. Rather, they wanted peace and to try and find a compromise with the South.
Carpetbaggers and scalawags were the names given to Northerners who traveled to the South to try to influence how the defeated states were run. to make money, some wanted to run for high political office.
It provided a land space for settlers who could utilize the land for work. The land was given for logging and mining because the land given was deemed "unfit for farming". The land was sold at around $2.50/acre and 160 acres was the limit to purchase. -KL
At first it was to make deals and treaties with them, but they kept breaking those deals, and eventually they just wanted to move them to specific lands, away from where other settlers wanted to go so that their original lush and rich lands could be given to colonists.

The Sumerians believed in divine kingship, which asmeant that the right to rule was god-given.
The Puritans were given their name because they sought to "purify" the Church of England from perceived Roman Catholic practices and beliefs that they considered to be corrupt. They wanted a simpler, more moral form of worship and believed in stricter adherence to biblical teachings.
