Many South Americans were killed by Spanish I think. If many were killed in North America, alot had to be killed in South America too.

He thought slavery was not just a crime, but a mortal-sin. Columbus tortured the natives to tell them information and "where is the gold?" if they didnt. they killed the poor native. To the natives, they thought was worthless. just as a leaf to us.

I have read the translation of his journal entries and for what he saw he wasn't far off. I think, though, that he is looking at the situation through the lens of having found India rather than finding a whole new area.
The newest research on Columbus actually shows that he was Spanish and not Italian. He wrote only in Spanish and spoke only Spanish. His wife was Spanish nobility. Historians think that Columbus took on the persona of an Italian because his family in Spain were not friends with the crown and he knew he wouldn't be able to get funding for his voyage if he kept his real identity.
