It is spelt Afghanistan, and their national sport is Buzkashi, which is effectively goat chasing, however I'm sure that they play all the same sports as in the U.K and America just with less success and numbers.
According to several Afghani sites, it is called Buzkashi, literally translated means "goat killing" or "goatgrabbing". Played on horseback, they use a dead goat calf and attempt to throw it across a goal line.
"Buzkashi" is similar to a game Mongolian troops used to play long ago when conquering a village/town/etc. But instead of a goat a child or human was used until they were dead, then another was put in it's place. It spread from china and Mongolia and it was then turned into a sport with a goat in Afghanistan, and in Persia they had a similar form of the game with something similar to a puck instead of any living creature, which is where polo got it's origins from.I heard this from a historian who is also a friend of the family who knows a lot about the subject, I haven't been able to find anything to dissuade this argument or prove though.
with the little ball and mallet it's called polo...hit the ball with the mallet into the goal.another alternative as per wiki : "Buzkashi or kokpar is the Central Asian sport in which horse-mounted players attempt to drag a goat carcass toward a goal."
