The British made three main reforms in India:

1) They outlawed suttee in 1829 (the tradition of a widow burning herself after her husband was dead).

2) They also built the largest railway system in Asia, constructed roads, and irrigated large areas of land. They improved health care and prevented many famines.

3) The British forbade the Indian people from trading with any other nations.
