Leave it alone. At this point it is too early for you to help. The novice breeder often becomes concerned and does far too much damage.
Trying to open a hole is far too dangerous for the chick,as you cannot know where the chicks head is and that must be where the first hole is started. Candling and forcing the hatch is done by some breeders but mortality is very, very high. Just poking a hole, although well intentioned is going to do no good. Under the shell are two membranes, the one directly under the shell is rubbery and does not carry a blood supply but the inner membrane does. As the chick works its way around the inside of the shell (pipping) it uses what is called an egg tooth to poke holes in the inner membrane sending a signal to stop the blood supply. This takes time and helping it is bad for the chick. When the chick has pipped (poked holes) all around in a circle it flexes its body to separate the shell. Sometimes the chick gets too weak to make the circle and has not enough energy to continue and that is when an experienced breeder/farmer can sometimes render assistance by loosening the tougher outer membrane but this does not always work.
Once the chick has started to "PIP" it will take from two hours up to 24 hours. It depends on the humidity in the incubator and the strength of the chick. some very determined chicks can break open the shell and emerge in a matter of hours.
It is not a good idea for a novice breeder to help the chick out of the egg in most cases. At this time the chick is very fragile and helping the chick can cause too much damage. If it doesnt hatch in about 24 hours, you should assist because they are weak unhealthy chicks.... but be very careful if you assist them, but if you dont after 24 hours they could die..... Helping AFTER it has made a small hole gives you an idea where the head is but it is still ill advised. Bump up the humidity to around 75%, if they are in an incubator, this will help loosen the membrane.
What you see when you crack open an egg is Yolk and albumen, the white and the yellow. This is actually the food for the developing chick when the egg is fertilized and incubated. The chick uses this food for the 21 days it takes to develop. It gets nutrients from the yolk. If you have ever studied the development of an egg you will see what happens. I have seen chicks born out of an incubator with the yolk still attached to their bodies....
Chicks will wander away in a farmyard. Mother hen usually will call it back to the brood but if that does not work, there are things you can do. Take mother hen and the rest of her family to a safe area. Bring mother hen back to the area you found her and she will make the right noise to call all her brood, the lost chick will likely come back. If that does not work, start searching any areas where the chick might hide like hay bales and long grass.

Once the first holes appear in the first egg, you will see your first chick emerge within 24 hours. Rates vary but eggs started all at the same time all will hatch within a day of each other. The emergent chicks have different stamina and some will take longer to complete the task than others.

The Centre Pompidou - sometimes nicknamed 'the raffinery' in French.
Yes, all Chick-fil-A franchises are closed on Sunday.
The chicks should all stay in the incubator until the hatch is complete and the chicks are fluffy and dry. They should all be moved to the brooder box at the same time. The chicks will roll the peeping eggs and that is ok. Sometimes the movement of the completed chicks will get the emerging chicks to begin and that is a good thing. Do not be hasty in removing the newly hatched chicks from the incubator, they can and should remain in there for up to 24 hrs.
