In tourism elephants are useful for elephant tours where tourists can experience an elephant ride, for example in India and Thailand. They are also used in zoos and kept in preservations. Elephants are expensive animals to buy and too feed. One needs special knowledge to handle them, a person called the 'mahout' or elephant driver.
