Horses do cost a bit of money. Obviously it would be waaay more expensive if you were to get a champion dressage stallion than a feral/pet horse.
Pet horses cost the least amount of money. they can be from aroung $200 ~$1000. Regular riding horses are usually $1500 ~ $10,000. Competition horses are $10,000 +. Professional horses are best left to proffessionals.
Factors such as;
breed
age
gender
years of training
heritage
competition results
injuries
temperment
conformation
can change the price of the horse.
Keeping the horse is also a bit of money. Usually about $12,000 ++ a year.
Things like the horse, the boarding place, your home, competing or non-competing are also factors.
Again showing also depends on what kind you are doing. (search how much do horse shows cost)
It would realy all depend on the horses' breed, health, age, and what kind of shape its in. For example, if you're looking for a nice calm horse to keep as a pet, the price wouldn't nearly be as much as a Polo Pony, or a race horse. Race horses, my gosh, can be around $200,000! Even more if they've won a lot of races. But if you're looking for a riding horse, then the price could be almost anything. Usually, riding ponies prices range from $3,000 to around $12,000.

Im not sure but I think they like horses so much because it probably seemed to them that horses were alike to there culture!
I work with miniature horses and they pretty much act lik normal sized horses
Prehistoric horses were much smaller. The horses we see today have one toe ( the hoof) and a remnant of another (the chestnut). Horses from that time had multiple toes, and as they evolved, they had less and less toes. To answer your question, that would be no. Horses in these periods are much faster that they were then.
