If you will not be home alot to bond with your hamster and interact with them, it is better to buy two. They will keep each other company. Otherwise, one hamster will bond with you better if you only have one. I found this to be true when I bought my hamster. She was left alone for awhile before I purchased her and after alot of interaction, she has become very friendly and sociable with people. If there are more than one hamster in a cage, they will bond with each other and not be as tolerable of you handling them.
It depends, if you have dwarf hamsters they can live in big groups.
If you have Syrian hamsters, they are rather solitary, if you put 2 together they might fight.
If you're trying to breed them, the female must be in heat and you must watch them the whole time, just in case they fight.
I have 2 Russian dwarf hamsters. I used to keep them in the same cage but then they fought way too much and injured each other. They did heal, but keeping them together wouldn't be a good idea. I've separated them so they can't fight anymore so I recommend you get 2 cages. Hope this helps!
2 dwarfs hamsters because they are good starter pets
