What to do for a constipated kitten?

In humans, constipation is 'no big deal'. Constipation in kittens can be a symptom of very dangerous diseases, and it can easily die. So it is absolutely necessary to take it to the vet.

A constipated kitten will not want to play. Instead, it will most likely be lethargic, will refuse to eat and some even stop grooming. Some kittens will constantly lick their anal area in an attempt to relieve the soreness.

Constipation, if left untreated for more than 48 hours, can become severely detrimental to a kitten's health to the point of being fatal. It is recommended to see a vet right away. In the mean time, try getting your kitten to eat oily fish such as pilchards, or mix some pumpkin puree (not the pie filler) in with some wet cat food. Both of these help lubricate the cat's digestive tract.

Diarrhoea can be very serious because the body can get dehydrated very quickly.

Make sure the dog has plenty of clean fresh water available to drink at all times.

If the dog has diarrhoea that persists for more than a day, passes any blood, is in any pain or discomfort or shows signs of dehydration, or if the dog cannot control its bowel actions take it to a vet immediately.

Signs of dehyration are difficult to note and are only obvious if the dehydration is serious, but can include:
