Evolution is perpetual. Through the fossil record, we see the origin of many an extant clade. We see the evolution of birds from dinosaurs and amphibians from sarcopterygian fish for example. But now that we are here, evolution does not stop. DNA continues to be replicated, over and over, perpetually, and producing generation after generation after generation. As genetic changes build up over time after replication upon replication upon replication of the DNA, so populations and thus species diverge genetically and thus morphologically. Evolution is perpetual and unending. It is thus inappropriate to assume it be confined to the past. Evolution has been going on as long as there has been life. Indeed evolution is one of the characters that define life from non-life. From the Precambrian, across the Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic to the present Holocene day, evolution has occurred and is still occurring.
Evolution through natural selection occurs slowly over millions of years. It has been hypothesized that evolution is the result of positive mutations that occur in a community of organisms that help them survive better. Evolution is essentially descent with modification.
Evolution works by tinkering with what is already there. It is far more likely that an advantageous change to an existing structure can occur than a gross change providing an advantage. An example would be the transition from fishes to amphibia. Small incremental modifications to fins to provide some of the functionality of walking limbs are far more likely to occur than limbs suddenly sprouting from a body where there was nothing there before, which would be nigh-on impossible.
It's a part of evolution that allows ALL the semen to be deposited. This is natural and should NEVER EVER be pulled apart. Injury to both the mother and father can occur.
Dobzhansky and Mayr's ideas about the origin of species are similar to Darwin's in that they all propose natural selection as the main mechanism driving evolution. They also emphasize the importance of variation within populations as the raw material for evolution to occur. Additionally, they highlight the concept of species diverging from common ancestors through the process of adaptation to different environments.
The Evolution of Melanism was created in 1973.
Evolution occurs in population not in an individual.
Yes. Evolution ocurred in all geologic periods.
The more variation there is in a group of specimens, the more evolution can occur between them.
You do not allow evolution to occur, for you are evolution in selective breeding.
Down Syndrome is a the addition of an extra chromosome and not really related to evolution. It is more of a genetic mutation that causes this event to occur.
During evolution, chromosomal cariation in structure cannot occur due to
For a mutation to affect evolution, it must occur in the DNA of reproductive cells (sperm or egg cells) so that it can be passed on to offspring. Mutations that occur in somatic cells (non-reproductive cells) do not directly impact evolution as they are not inherited by future generations.
It already has in some instances
Selective Breeding of course!
Evolution would not occur if there is no genetic variation within a population, no selection pressure, or if there is no reproduction and passing on of genes to the next generation.
Absolutely. Evolution isn't an historical process; it is on-going as long as there is life.
Evolution is sometimes described as macro-evolution, which is the long-term evolution of an entire new species, and micro-evolution, which is largely to do with less significant evolutionary changes within a species. Many creationists accept the existence of micro-evolution, but say that macro-evolution does not occur.
