You might want to look into the piston slap issues of aluminum pistons like those in the neon. Also, be aware of the fact that rings can not only get sticky but have a buildup occur on them, this can also cause an increase in oil consumption. You can read more on issue like this if you search on products like rislone, a cleaner product to clean off and free up sticky rings. As with most things, you could have a combination of factors but these issues could be worth knowing about, might even be your fix. Best of luck - A 2000 Neon owner
