2001 Ford Taurus sel there is a light that looks like the engine you have had it to a mechanic who changed the egr valve and egr solenoid switch the light still lites why does this lite not go out?

Buy, borrow or rent an OBDII (On Board Diagnostic 2) code reader, plug it in to the vehicle as instructed, read the code and find out what's going on. With most OBDII code readers, you can clear the code and turn off the light. Then run the engine for a while and see if the light comes back on. If it does, see what code you get and take appropriate action. Often a mechanic doesn't have the time or resources to follow through on an intermittent or recurrent problem and as a result the problem doesn't get adequately addressed. That is why many people get involved in their own auto repair and educate themselves in what goes on under the hood.
