Install you new drive (set as master) and install your OS (operating system) by setting your BIOS to Boot from CD and inserting the OS disk in to the CD drive and rebooting. Follow the installation instructions for your OS as normal.

When installed and working, take your old drive and set it as slave if it is on the same IDE interface. If on a different IDE interface you can leave it as Master.

Power up again and reset your BIOS to boot from IDE0. Use the autodetect function to detect and setup the harddisk and let it boot up.

In MY COMPUTER you should now find a second harddisk, which will be your old drive.

Now just copy the documents etc. as you would with any other files.

Another Option

Get a Program like NORTON GHost, Acronis True image ect and it will copy all your stuff, apps, OS ec t to bigger disk. In Vista you can exspand your drive to use the rest of the bigger drive in the Drive managemenet utility. in xp just make a second drive letter with the rest or get a program like partition magic and adjust the size.
