The correct answer would be yes, they are connected. North America's only land connection to South America is at the Isthmus of Panama. However, there is the Panama Canal running through the Isthmus of Panama, in order for ships to get from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean faster. So, if you want it completely literally, no, they are not connected. Not with land, at least.
