Yes, they are. No parisitical infestation is good for any animal. Could cause inflammation of the digestive tract, diarrhea and a whole host of other problems.

Hit your local pet store for some worming treatment, the local superstore may have it, otherwise got a worming treatment from the vet. It shouldn't break the bank, either.

Since you've got internet, do a Google search for "whipworms" (yes, put it in parenthesis for a more accurately specific search) to find out more. Don't waste any time in researching and taking care of this problem.
