∙ 18y agoIf they hired you without an application, then they must like you enough to keep you despite a felony. Plead your case if they question you, ensure them it wont keep you from working hard for them and be a model citizen from here on out. You will get further this way.

A job application is not a contract. If he hired you based on your availability to work than he knew before hand of the extra hours. No one can force anyone to do something they dont want to do. It is illegal and against the law to force someone to work more hours than what they were hired for. If you work 40 hours a week and he forces you to work more, I would highly suggest to call the labor board.

You can certainly sue. Your action would be for wrongful termination. In order to win, you would have to establish that your reason for wanting that day off is religious and that the employer knew this and fired you for that reason. However, if you have historically been available for work on that day of the week, said that you would be available on that day when hired or if it can be proved that your reason for requesting off is non-religious, you would not be able to prevail.
