Best Answer

Yes, under two conditions. You need the 7.1 signal available in the program data stream, and you need an appropriate decoder. Alternatively, if the program does not contain 7.1, the decoder does signal processing to attempt to emulate a particular listening space, giving you a derived 7.1 channel environment.

How do you connect surround sound to a TV?

There are essentially two ways to get surround sound out of the Xbox. Via HDMI or via optical (TOSLINK) out. If you have the component video cable, then the end that attaches to the Xbox has an optical out port. Simply attach this to the optical in on your home theatre receiver with an optical cable. If you want to use audio via HDMI, in order to get surround sound you'll have to have an HDMI receiver capable of receiving audio. In this case run the Xbox via HDMI to the receiver and then the receiver via HDMI to the TV. The HDMI will send both audio and video. If you have the official Xbox HDMI cable you can also connect the HDMI cable directly to the TV and use the optical out connector that it comes with instead.

No audio output from your Blu-ray player?

Assuming that the connection to the television is via an HDMI connector, the audio should be carried on the same cable as video. However, some televisions have an analog audio input that is associated with the HDMI connector and is there to allow certain sources to run a separate analog audio feed alongside the picture. Use the set up menu on the television to look for an "external audio" function as part of the HDMI set up. If this is enabled, it will prevent the HDMI audio being heard. There are other causes that might be due to damaged cables or a fault in the player or television.

Can Dolby true HD and DTS master audio sound be transferred via an optical connection?

No, only HDMI can transfer DTS HD Master Audio and Dolby True HD.

Why are 7.1 channel receivers have 7.1 analog input and not digital 7.1 input?

There are two standards for high-quality named DVD-Audio (DVD-A) and Super Audio CD (SACD). Players for both types connect to a receiver via a 5.1 channel analog input. So these 7.1 analog inputs are mainly aimed to be compatible with players of those formats. If you want to transmit 7.1 digital channels to a receiver, you can do that over the HDMI input. You don't need a special audio-only input for that, which is why there is no digital 7.1 audio input standard. HDMI is effectively that standard.

How do you get audio onto a tv from a computer when the video is connected via HDMI - is it possible to get the audio using a jack to rca adapter?

That is exactly right. There is a jack that looks like head phones on one side and the other side splits into left and right audio plugs. On the back of your tv there should be audio plugs that are associated to the hdmi plug. Plug in your audio here. Alternately you can plug your audio dirrectly into your stereo. Or go from your stereo, into your tv or vice versa.

Which is better optical cable or HDMI?

HDMI is a pure digital signal for video AND audio. It's the best you can get. Component is the next best option for video, but most upscaling DVD players and the like can only send a 1080p signal via HDMI. If you're asking about coaxial as in the coax cable that supplies your cable feed to your tv or cable box then there is no comparison, literally. It's two different things. The cable signal will be decoded in the cable box then sent to the tv via whatever format you're using. If your talking about running the coax straight from the wall to your tv then you will NOT get an HD signal. You will have to have an HD cable box then run HDMI or component out to the tv from there. If you're talking about digital Coaxial cable, that is used for audio only. You have three options here. If you run everything through an HDMI switching receiver then that's all you need. If you're going straight to your tv and using built-in TV speakers then HDMI is all you need. If you're running your video to the TV with HDMI, but audio through a receiver then you can use either digital coax or toslink connections for digital audio. Toslink (fiber optic) is supposed to be the best for audio, but I've used digital coax and don't notice much of a difference. On a side note, if your tv accepts DVI, then you should know that DVI is essentially the same as HDMI except without the audio. DVI is digital video only.

How can you use your Ps3 on your Laptop via HDMI?

Is it possible to counteract the interference in audio when connecting to a monitor via HDMI on a Mac?

You should have no interference with an HDMI cable. If so then make sure the cable is not near another electrical device. If that is not the case then you need to clean the connection at both the TV and the computer as dust in the connection will cause static. Do not use anything except an electronic cleaner. CRC QD Electronic cleaner is one of the best and you can buy it at Walmart or just about any hardware or electronics store.

How do you connect Xbox 360 to laptop via HDMI cord?

The HDMI port is in/out, try a tv tuner.

Why does the sound on some cable channels go in and out?

This depends on how you receive these channels that this happens on. If you receive them via the tuner in the TV: 1. It may be the channel from the broadcasters, or cable provider. 2. It may be the tv tuner going out/drifting. If you receive them via a Settop Box STB (cable converter): 1. If you are using HDMI it is likely that the communication between the STB and TV via HDMI is faulty, or version mismatched 1.2 to 1.3a (some TV manufacturers have a firmware/software patch that you can use to correct this). 2. If you have a STB that has Dolby digital setting, make sure it is turned off.

Can you plug a PC in to a Alba lcdw16hdf TV?

There are no dedicated PC inputs in the rear of this Alba LCDW16HDF model. There are, however, an HDMI, a SCART connector, Component Audio/Video Inputs (YPbPr), a S/PDIF input (digital audio input), an RF Input to connect to an antenna or a coaxial cable, and finally, there are stereo audio line outs. The HDMI input is compatible with the DVI outputs found on more modern PCs-all that is required is a simple pin adapter. Picture quality can be excellent via this method.
