Having lived here for over 20 years, I would say about 20-30% of people living inside Salt Lake City boundaries are active, practicing Mormons. A larger number were baptized as children but don't practice the religion today. Most Mormons live in the more family-friendly suburbs surrounding the city. The Salt Lake City Metropolitan area (which includes the surrounding suburbs and smaller cities like Provo and Ogden) is about 70% practicing Mormons - some areas have fewer Mormons (20% or so) and others have more (80-90%), depending on the neighborhood.
