The Vikings did not contribute to the fall of the western part of the Roman Empire. They emerged as a power some centuries after the fall of this part of the empire.

The Magyars, the ancestors of the Hungarians, reached central Europe in the late 8th century, long after the fall of the western part of the empire. They did not contribute to the fall of the Eastern Roman (byzantine) Empire. Initially they attacked areas of the Carolingian Empire in Italy and southeastern Germany. They did conduct some raids into the Eastern Roman Empire, but on a minor scale. Later they helped the Eastern Roman/Byzantine Empire in the defence of Eastern Europe against the Turks.

Only the Germanic peoples contributed to the fall of the Western Roman Empire. They did so by invading Gaul, Spain, Portugal and Africa, which were part of this empire.

The Magyars moved from Ukraine and settled in the present day area of Hungary in the 9th and 10th centuries, more than 400 hundred years after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. The Viking carried out their raids in the North Sea and along the Atlantic coast in the late 8th century-early 9th century, more than 300 years after the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
