The 27th President of the United States, Taft also became the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court after his term in office.
Had stolen the Republican Nomination from Roosevelt who had then  walked out with his supporters and ran under the Progressive Party  Platform

Roosevelt was extremely aggressive, pushing for reform across many  areas of the government. Taft, while still a progressive, did not  actively push to further Roosevelt's agendas. This lead to a split  in the Republican Party.
