One of the first was against the Tripolian pirates (now Libya) remembered in the Marine's Hymn, "...to the shores of Tripoli..." Another was against the Phillipine Moros, whose name derives from "Moors," the Muslims of North Africa. Many Muslims in the Middle East sided with Hitler during World War II as he promised to help them kill the Jews. Of course, the "War on Terror" is not specifically against Muslims, but that's who generally turn out to be the terrorists in practice.
