How can you achieve unity?

Unity is a great virtue. It gives us strength. One man cannot drag a heavy load. But if several men try they can do it easily. There may be five brothers in a family. If they live separately and do not help one another, they cannot prosper; they become weak. If there be unity among them, their enemies are afraid of them. If they quarrel among themselves, the enemy can easily do harm to them. The drops of water are very little things but when they are collected, they make the vast ocean. The grains of sand are also very little things. But the vast land is made of them. Each grass is not a strong thing. But when a rope is made of them, an elephant can be bound. An ant cannot drag a dead insect or a bit of food but when many ants try together, they can drag it easily.

Thus we find that union if strength. Every work can be done by virtue of unity. Many nations have become powerful and prosperous by virtue of unity. Again, many nations have become weak for want of unity. The Romans of old became very powerful. At that time there was unity among them. But afterwards they lost their power because they had no unity among them at that time. The Mahammadans were able to conquer India because there was no unity among the Indian kings. They did not help one another. The English also gained power in this way. The English have become the most prosperous nation for their unity.

At present it is the age of working together. One man cannot start a big business. Many men are united and start a big business. The workers are united and compel the masters to look to their wants.

One way to achieve unity is to not focus on what is different about people. Instead focus on thinking of everyone in the group as one team.
