The U.S. tried to stop Communism in a number of different ways throughout history; wars, money, etc. Most of the wars we fight are because we want to stop the spread of Communism. Also, post-WWII, we gave money to countries such as Greece, Turkey, etc, to ensure that they would not turn to Communism, because obviously if you look throughout history, poor countries tend to turn to Communism for a "quick" fix. We thought (and still kind of think) if we give money to poor countries who are in threat of Communism, that they will think the U.S. is a great country and want to be Democratic, which happend with Greece and Turkey.
USA was very careful with USSR at the time and both sides were very secrative. If any communist was found in USA, we would be killed by the public. Both sides also strengthened their armies by making new ships, submarines to show off which side is better and to be ready for an attack any time. Infact the whole Vietnam War was about communism, since Kennedy thought that If Vietnam became a communist country a chain reaction would happen and the contries around Vietnam and they would all convert to communism. But only a few years after the Vietnam war, North Vietnam (the communists) converted to Democracy, thats 85,000 lives down the drain. The USSR lost the Cold War because they spent so much money on military USA was smarter and kept their money supply stable.

Both were between northern communist and southern democratic countries. Both were proxy wars where communist red china supported the north, and the U.S. and their allies supported the South. They differ in that the Korean war was simply stalled with a cease fire agreement, and the Vietnam war ended with the unification of the two into a single communist country.

Yes. The United States attempted to stop the USSR from spreading communism by supplying armaments, financing, and military support to countries on the verge of falling into a communistic government. The Korean Police Action and Vietnamese Conflict were attempts at stopping communism from overtaking the countries of Korea and Vietnam. The United States aided Afghanistan in the ten year war against Russia, which was an effort in keeping communism out of the Middle East.
