It doesn't matter what movie format you use to burn DVD. The problem lies in the DVD burner you use to burn DVD. If your DVD burner supports many popular video formats like avi, mpg, mpeg, mp4, mov, wmv and so on, you could burn movies of those formats to DVD freely. I personally use Wondershare Video to DVD Burner to burn my DVD, and it works well for me.

AVI is the best and it is the most widely used one also. You can get free convertors over the internet to do this also. I think the best one is one called Format Factory which you can get and download free from the internet. hope this helps you.
