How do you check the ignition coils on a 1990 kawasaki 750 vulcan motorcycle?

hey.. the only way to check a coil of any kind is with an ohm meter,,,if it's bad it will show nothing or infinity... if it is good it should have at least 8 dependant upon the resistance but could be higher... i can't remember if too high means corosion or not but i know you can get the numbers from the manufacturer

∙ 9y agoRemove the retaining ring, from the ignition. Pull the ignition barrel out. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the ignition barrel. Reverse the process to install the new ignition.

Your ignition is probably fine what you need to check is the starter solenoid, more than likely that is what has gone bad. To find it follow the positive cable from the battery and it should lead you to it. If you turn your ke to the on position and touch both terminals on the solenoid with a screwdriver the motorcycle will turn over.

I'm pretty sure it does. I own a 1995 Vulcan and I bought a 2003 tank and looked at the mounting brackets and fuel connections all looked to be the same - but don't put this in stone. I haven't been able to put it on yet because it's still out being painted. There should be no difference in the fuel tank mounts from 1996-1005, but as always, check with a professional if this information is critical.
