trust me i did it after i was told that i needed to rebuild mine.It has a closed unit and so everywhere u take it they will tell u to take it to the dealer.

First lift and secure the car. On the sump there are two bolts on the right(looking above from underneath) open the lower one to drain the fluid. While its draining?

Go to Auto zone and get a siphon pump $12-$15. Get the tranny fluid .Once the fluid is drained you will have to find a partner for this. The pump works very simple and efficiently.

Pour the fluid in a bucket {they will tell you how much u need but get some extra}. On the sump open the other nut and tighten the drain one. Then insert one end of the pumps pipes into the refill hole and your partner holds the pump into the new fluid bucket.

Pump it all in until u see some scant drainage on the outside. Start the car while doing this and let someone else play around with the tranny lever. Once smooth? quickly shut the filler hole with the nut. Put some extra fluid coz this is the most difficult part of the whole thing. You will definitely loose some fluid if You are not quick enough.

The filler plug is on the rear section of the transmission that the drive shafts bolt on to, it looks alot like the drain plug and is fairly obvious. The tranny itself fills from the dipstick tube.

How do you know if the transmission fluid is low on a 2002 Isuzu Trooper or if the transmission is going out When starting off the vehicle is jumping?

when accelerating, if the transmission seems to "jump" or "slip" and is fine after that, it's probably low on fluid. while the trooper is on and in park, pull out the transmission dipstick to read the fluid level. wherwe is the dip stick 2002 Isuzu trooper, thank you the 2002 trooper has no tranny dipstick, you need to check it from under the car. on the tranny pan are two drain plugs. one to drain, one to fill. you need to pump the fluid into the fill plug hole. this is best done at a shop that has a pump . fill it up until the fluid runs out the fill hole. quickly replace the plug. do this on a level surface.
