1. Start with hair: Get it professionally layered by an emo doctor with side or long strait across bangs. You can tease it, and straighten it of course. You should get it cut professionally, first, and then you can trim your bangs yourself every 3 weeks or so. Most emo girls dye their hair a lot. The most common color is black. You can start with black and get colored or blond highlights. Coon tails and leopard print designs in your hair are cool too, but you can easily just buy extensions from a hair salon or a store like Hot Topic. You'll need some hairspray and other styling products to create a look you like.
2. Clothes: Skinny jeans and band t-shirts will make up most of your outfits. Try to get them directly from the bands' web store or from District Lines because they give more money to the band; Hot Topic takes a large cut from the sales, giving the bands less money. Telling people this when they say they like your shirt will also give you extra emo points. The jeans can be found at Old Navy, Forever 21, Hot Topic, Pacsun, and Macy's. Its best to get them in black or dark washes, and maybe a pair or two of bright ones, but nothing too tacky. You can wear plain black hoodies or band hoodies when you get cold. If you live in somewhere with snow, those puffy jackets are appropriate. Tutus and bright tights are great for myspace pictures.
3. Shoes: The classic black and white or black and black high-top Converse always work. Also black slip-on or classic era Vans in dark colors, or with logos of bands you like are great. You can look at Google pictures on how to customize them. This can be as simple as drawing with white-out your favorite band lyrics or just adding neon laces. Lately, also, colorful Nikes have been worn by the bravest emos.
4. Accessories: Hair bows, band wristbands, black or white studded belt, neon shoelaces, Hello Kitty stuffed animals, colorful or black head bands (look up pictures to see how to wear them), 3-D glasses, band pins, safety pins in some things, those rubber black and neon bracelets, and anything to do with gore, brass knuckles, rib cages, bones, bands, hearts, guns, Hello Kitty, or other little-kid-character things.
