If you mean an authentic antique, it would be by examination of the metal, tool marks, etc. Most of the originals were damascus or twist steel, which has a very unique grain or pattern in the metal.
Markings on the rifle will indicate exactly when and where it was made. So- what markings are on yours?

You cant, unless you can identify the rifle correctly. Need to know ALL the markings, barrel length, caliber, etc.

First, you'd need to know what type of rifle it is. There's plenty of resources available online which can identify markings and such, but they tend to be oriented towards one particular type of rifle.
